Cassap talks ahead of Rainton Reunion show

Lambton Street’s seven time national champion, heavyweight Warren Cassap, took some time out from training to answer a few burning questions ahead of his appearance on Friday night at the Rainton Meadows Arena.

PETER MANN – You’re a big name amongst a lot of stars at Lambton Street with seven national titles to your name, and counting – what’s your thoughts on this success for you?

WARREN CASSAP – It’s great to win national titles. I just need keep training hard and hopefully I will win a senior ABA title next season and get a shout back up with the England squad, that’s the goal.

PM – How long have you been an amateur and with Lambton Street and how have you found it all?

WC – I’ve been here since I was 10 so about 12 years now. I had my first fight at 15 and it’s been great; all the coaches give full effort and it’s like a second home to be honest.

PM – There’s been a lot of changes this season mainly with the arrival of Gary Bunting and the insertion of a more professional setting – how have you found and adapted yourself to them?

WC – It was quite hard at first, somewhat different with the diet and started the strength and conditioning sessions but I’m used to them now and it’s made me much stronger, fitter and I feel that I can cope with the weight much easier now as well.

PM – Looking at Friday night, it follows on from a largely attended Stadium of Light show – how did you find fighting in front of big crowds and what’s your thoughts going into Friday night?

WC – Yes I enjoy the big crowds but I know when it’s time to go to work. I just concentrate on getting the job done and try my best to win the bout. I’m going into that ring on Friday confident fit and strong and know that if I just stick to my boxing skills then I will be fine.

PM – I understand you’ll be travelling with the seniors to the famed Haringey Cup shortly after this show – what’s your thoughts on this tournament and you and the Lambton Street seniors going down to Alexandra Palace?

WC – It will be a great experience. I know what to expect from it so I am putting the graft in and I’m going there to win. It will be a massive achievement to win that tournament.
